Below are some questions with answers from the Swedish Agricultural Agency about the origin labeling of dried fruit and nuts according to EU Regulation (EU) 2023/2429.
Question: In article 3 it says, among other things that dried fruits and berries according to CN code ex 0813 must be labeled with origin. But what is included under ex 0813?
Answer: The table presented here in the answer on the Swedish Agricultural Agency's website also includes products under ex 0813.

Question: According to the regulation, it is permitted for mixtures to indicate e.g. "EU and outside the EU". Does this statement have to be written exactly like that, or would an expression with the same meaning, "EU and non-EU", be allowed?
Answer: It is fine to enter "non-EU" instead. It has the same meaning and is clear to the consumer.
Question: What if it is a mixture of dried fruit of the same species but from different countries? Is it allowed to refer to several countries? To indicate and/or whether the origin may vary?
Answer: If the packaging contains a product (art), the contents must come from the same country of origin. Indication of and/or and then alternative countries of origin is not compatible with the requirement that the consumer has the right to know which country of origin the respective product comes from.
Question: If the origin of a product of the same species varies between different batches, is it then permissible to refer to a code that is printed in connection with the batch code? E.g. Origin: see letter next to batch code A= [Argentina], B=[China].
Answer: It is not permitted to indicate alternative countries of origin on a package. A package must have a country of origin indicated and it must be indicated in its entirety - different forms of codes for the country are not accepted.
Question: Is it permissible to refer to a more specific origin than a country, e.g. Hawaii (a state) instead of the United States (a country)?
Answer: Country of origin is always a country, not a region. In this case, the United States should be entered.
